Hit your high note with ‘Monthly Open Mic Night’

Women’s Center showcases student talent in the Bullpen

If you have a performance that you are dying to have people watch or even a piece of art that you would love people to see, then you are going to love this upcoming event. It is the Monthly Open Mic Night and Open Art Gallery brought to us by The Women’s Center.

This event will be located in the Maverick Bullpen in the basement of the Centennial Student Union on Wednesday, April 13, from 7-9 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will even be provided!

Past performances have mostly been singing and poetry reading, but really any type of performance is welcome. It doesn’t matter if you have not previously performed on Open Mic Night before or anything along those lines. Anyone can come to this event and perform anything they think is fitting.

Individuals do not have to worry about signing up for their performance beforehand since there will be a sign-up sheet available at the event. It is a great way to show people a song, story, or anything else that you have been working hard on.

Along with the performances, there will also be an Open Art Gallery part of the event. There will be easels and tables that people will be able to place their art work on. If anyone needs a different type of display for their art work, they can feel free to notify Renee Turgeon, the assistant director of The Women’s Center, and she will get them whatever they need. One of the best parts is that anyone can display their work. You do not have to be an art major or in any art classes. If you have completed a piece of art that you are proud of and want it to be seen, this is a great opportunity for you to display it for the public.

According to Turgeon, past Open Mic Night events have been a hit and have also been really fun. There have been some pretty serious performances but the overall event is mostly casual. Everyone in the public is welcome but many students attend this event. It is a great way to get your hard work out there and noticed by everyone. Again, Open Mic Night and Open Art Gallery will take place on Wednesday, April 13, in the Maverick Bullpen from 7-9 p.m. If you do not have a performance or piece of art that you want displayed you can still attend this event and just enjoy yourself.

This event will be a great way to see other people’s work while meeting new people and socializing with friends. If you have any questions about this event, please email the Assistant Director of The Women’s Center, Renee Turgeon, at renee.turgeon@mnsu.edu.
