NSIC Indoor Championship awaits track & field

The men’s and women’s track & field squads prepare for an uphill battle versus their conference

The Maverick Invitational hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato was held at Myers Field House on Friday, Feb. 16.

The teams that competed at the invite were Minnesota Duluth, Sioux Falls, Gustavus Adolphus, Winona State, Wisconsin–La Crosse, and Upper Iowa.

For both the men’s and women’s track & field teams, they left the invite on Friday knowing that they had some dominant performances from a variety of different people.

For the men’s competitions, in the 400m dash, senior sprinter Derek Finsterwalder showed great poise, finishing first with a time of 51.36.

In the 4X400m relay, the team finished first with a time of 3:28:41. The team comprised of freshmen Jacob Wahlers and Andrew Ruiz, sophomore Isaiah Rabata and senior Finsterwalder.

Junior throwers Jayme LaPlante and Jack Curtis finished second with a throw of 15.43m [50’7.50”] and jump of 2.00m [6’6.75”] in shot-put and high jump respectively.

Senior Keyshawn Davis finished first in long jump with a top leap of 6.82m [22’4.5”].

Sophomore Eneji Obami finished second with a time of 8:38 in 60m hurdles while junior Logan Bristol placed third in both 60m hurdles and high jump with [8:42] and 1.95m [6’4.75”] respectively.

In the women’s competitions, junior Khadiya Hollingsworth finished first with a top clear of 1.76m (5’9.25”) in high jump, improving her provisional qualifying mark and currently ranks as the second-best jump in DII this season.

Freshman Morgan Florek brought home first place with a throw of 16:07m [52’8.75”] and sophomore Annebile Haarstad finished second with a throw of 16.02m [52’6.75”].

Junior Afure Adah finished second in the 400m dash with a provisional qualifying time of 56.57, which is currently the twenty-sixth best time in DII.

Junior Bobbi Patrick finished first in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.74.

Junior sprinter Jessika Dieringer finished third with a time of 1:41.79 in the 600m.

Freshman long sprinter Ivy Glade finished third in the one mile run with a time of 5:28.31.

Sophomore Rachel Schumacher finished second with a top jump of 1.70m (5’7”) in high jump, also a provisional qualifying mark and ties for the tenth best in DII this season.

The Maverick Track and field team, in the hopes of clinching their seventh NSIC Conference title, will compete next weekend February 23rd and 24th, 2018 in the NSIC Indoor Championship to be held at Myers Field House.
