MSU Theatre’s studio season continues with ‘Stupid F*cking Bird’

Hopefully by now you’ve deduced that “Stupid F*cking Bird” contains explicit language and themes. As a contemporary adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull,” a classic Russian play about the artistic and romantic struggles of its four main artists, this recreation attempts (and succeeds) to put a shiny new coat of paint on this age-old story.

An aspiring young director rampages against the art created by his mother’s generation. A nubile young actress wrestles with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist. And everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.

It’s not all sour grapes, however. The play follows the firsts tradition of balancing comedy and tragedy, having you crying from laughing to crying from overwhelming depression the next.

Directed by Jim Van Oork, “Stupid F*cking Bird” runs 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-17 in the Andreas Theatre, Performing Arts Center, Minnesota State Mankato.

Tickets are $10 regular; $9 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $8 for MSU students.

The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center or buy single tickets online at MSUTheatre.com. Call the Box Office at 507-389-6661.
