MavHouse Records, Minnesota State University, Mankato’s on-campus record label, will be hosting three musical performances in the Centennial Student Union from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 18, April 8 and April 22.

The acoustic performances will feature students from the University’s music department. Julie Tonsager, secretary of MavHouse Records, explained that the event aims to showcase great musicians within the University.

“We do actually have really talented musicians on campus. Students who are pursuing a future in music,” she said.

The first show on Monday, March 18 will feature Brandon and The Clubs, Matthew Ruff, and 14th Avenue.

Brandon Weideman of Brandon and The Clubs is an energetic, pop artist who brings as much dazzle into his performances as he does his music. Inspired by artists like Lady Gaga, Kesha and Nicki Minaj, Brandon is sure to leave listeners with their toes tapping and a melody stuck in their head.

Matthew Ruff is a soulful singer-songwriter whose songs stem from stories. His voice ranges from soft and soulful to raw and powerful. Laced with hints of Sam Smith and Sia, Ruff is a truly talented artist and will take listeners on a new journey with every song.

Cole Marshall, known as 14th Avenue, is an indie-electronic artist from Champlin, Minnesota. 14th Avenue experiments in all genres, and it reflects in his music. Marshall will perform a self-accompanied acoustic set of pop songs and acoustic versions of his originals. This music industry freshman is sure to impress as he continues to grow.

As a record label, MavHouse Records strives to share the talents of local musicians all over Mankato.

“We like to celebrate a lot of the music that is happening on campus. It’s exciting when we have students who have such a passion for music and who are writing. They put all their hard work into the production, working together as a group of people, putting on some really cool things,” Tonsager said.

“We like to help promote that.”

The first show, on March 18, will take place in the Hearth Lounge in the Centennial Student Union. The following two shows will be in the Flex Space.
