After starting this season on a slow start, the Minnesota State Mavericks men’s basketball team look to win their first game against the St. Cloud State Huskies on Saturday.

They have started the season 0-2, losing against both Washburn University and Missouri Southern State.

Their last game, they went head-to-head against Missouri Southern State. Despite the loss, they had a great supporting bench who pitched in 36 points.

The Mavericks were led by sophomore guard Corvon Seales, scoring a total of 19 points. Freshman Ryland Holt was not too far behind, pouring in 15 points and grabbing five rebounds. Senior forward Cameron Kirksey added 12 points.

The Mavericks and the Huskies have had tough battles every year. Saturday’s game will be their 180th meeting. The record is very close, but Huskies are currently leading the series overall with a 93-84 record.

The Mavericks won 80-77 in November 2018. Then the Huskies evened the series in January, winning 77-74. With the previous season’s series being tied 1-1 and both games being won by no more than three points, the game will be a well-fought competition between the two.

Both teams are on the same track this year, itching to get the first win of the season’s series.
