~ All advertising is subject to the approval of the Reporter Staff. The Reporter reserves the right to refuse any advertising content that does not meet the Reporter's standards of acceptability. Publication of an advertisement denotes acceptance by the Reporter.
~ The Reporter will not knowingly accept any advertisement that violates a university regulation, city, county, state or federal law. Any advertisement dealing with a politically or socially controversial question will be subject to the approval of the Reporter Staff.
~ The Reporter will not knowingly accept advertisements including false or misleading information. The Reporter reserves the right to request documentation to support claims that may be deemed misleading by the acceptance committee.
~ The Reporter will not knowingly accept any advertisement that clearly identifies a person by photograph, illustration, first or last name, address or telephone number without the express written consent of the person who is the subject of the advertisement.
~ Advertisements discriminating against any person or group of persons based on race, sex, age, color, creed, religion, nationality or disability will not be accepted.
~ The advertiser and/or advertising agency agrees to defend and indemnify the Reporter against any and all liability, loss or expense arising from claims of libel, unfair competition, unfair trade practice, infringement of trademarks, trade names or patents, violations or rights of privacy and infringement of copy rights and proprietary rights resulting from the publication of the advertiser's advertisement.
~ Advertisements having the appearance of editorial material must have the word 'Advertisement' printed in them, and the Reporter reserves the right to insert the words 'Paid Advertisement' in any advertisement.
~ Advertising produced by the Reporter shall be property of the Reporter and shall not be reproduced or used without consent.
~ Any advertisement written in a language other than English must be submitted with an English translation, verified by the appropriate MSU Foreign Language Department Chairperson.
~ Statements are mailed near the 15th of each month following publication. All balances are due by the 1st of the month following publication. Accounts more than 60 DAYS PAST DUE will not be allowed to place additional ads until the outstanding balance is paid in full.
~ One tearsheet per advertisement is provided and will be sent after the publication of the advertisement. Up to three tearsheets and copies of bills can be sent for a nominal charge.
~ Prepayment from new clients is required until the advertiser has established a credit line with the Reporter. To establish a credit line, the advertiser must prepay the first $250 of advertising (need not be paid in full at one time). The Reporter reserves the right to require prepayment for any advertisements.
~ All out of state advertisers must prepay advertising with cash, cashiers check, money order or certified check, unless ads are placed through an authorized/established advertising agency or national representative.
~ Advertisers and agencies forwarding insertion orders to the Reporter, which contain incorrect rates or conditions, are hereby advised that the advertising called for will be inserted according to current advertising policies and billed at the correct rate in effect.
~ Political ads must be prepaid, plainly identify the sponsor of the group or candidate, and conform to all Reporter standards pertaining to political advertising. All political ads placed in the Reporter will be charged according to the earned rate on the rate card.
~ The Reporter reserves the right to change advertising rates and policies set forth on the rate card at any time upon thirty (30) days notice.
~ The Reporter shall not be responsible for typographical errors which do not decrease the value of the advertisement. Liability for any error is limited to the cost of space occupied by the error and to the first insertion of the erroneous advertisement. Make-good ads will be run at the discretion of the Reporter staff and will be scheduled during the semester in which the ad with the error appeared in the Reporter.
1) Deadline to place or cancel an ad as well as receive electronic files or ad materials are: Friday at 4:00 p.m. for Tuesday issues and Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for Thursday issues. Ads cancelled after the 4 p.m. deadline will be billed for the full amount.
2) Deadline to make minor text changes to ad are: Monday at noon for Tuesday issues and Wednesday at noon for Thursday issues. ** PROOFS WILL ONLY BE GIVEN TO THOSE ADVERTISERS WHO REQUEST ONE. Upon receipt of the proof, please revise or approve and return to your ad representative. ONCE AN ADVERTISER SIGNS THE PROOF, THE REPORTER WILL NOT BE HELD FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MISTAKE FOUND AFTER THE AD IS PUBLISHED.

~ Email electronic files or ads to: reporter-ad@mnsu.edu
~ Drop-off ads acceptable on jump drive, floppy disk, DVD, or CD-ROM. Include a printout of what the ad should look like.
~ All images and fonts used in the ad must be included on disk. PC fonts are not compatible and will be replaced with a similar font.
~ Graphics must be saved as TIFF or EPS files. (JPEG files are generally too low resolution to provide quality reproduction. If you are sending a JPEG, make sure it is at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) at the size needed.
~ Ad design software programs used: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator & Adobe PhotoShop. We have other applications, but these work best for our 21st century printshop.
~ All ad production is done in InDesign, with graphics in Adobe Illustrator EPS and Adobe Photoshop EPS formats.
~ The Reporter is produced and edited entirely on Apple Macintosh computers, with digital and printing technology peripherals from: Canon, Epson, Microtek, Nikon, and Xanté Corporation.
~ The Reporter is printed via FTP transmission of color-separated PDF files - with the expertise and cooperation of Blue Earth Central Graphics of Blue Earth, MN.
