Minnesota State is extending its reach beyond Mankato this semester with a new facility at 7700 France, Edina, that now offers an MSU education without the drive.

A majority of the classes offered will also be available at night or in an online format, making it easier for those with jobs or families to continue their education.

The location also helps with MSU's ongoing partnership with Normandale Community College due to its close proximity.

In the past, MSU has offered various courses at locations such as Burnsville and Eden Prairie. But this will mark the first MnSCU institution to offer a program in the metro on such a large scale.

Programs offered include undergraduate degrees in American sign language, aviation, communication, elementary education, creative writing, secondary math education and special education. Students can also take on a graduate degree in community health, gerontology, nursing, public administration, sociology, special education or teaching and learning.

Plans exist to eventually offer a Master's degree in business administration.

Classes are already in session but the grand opening takes place Sept. 25.
