Looking for fun and a cool way to make some cold cash?
If you're like any typical college student looking for a reason to postpone doing homework for a few hours, the Centennial Student Union has an activity for you tonight to help pass the time.
From 5 - 7 p.m. tonight, stop by Ostrander Auditorium to be in a professional commercial.
"People should go because they will be able to be a part of a fun commercial," said Samantha Eckerson, Campus Kitchen program coordinator and one of the organizers of the event. "We need about 50 to 100 students. These people will be able to display their acting talents to Minnesota State, and they will be able to learn a little about what it takes to be a part of commercial production and filming."
As a bonus, students won't have to feed themselves afterwards. "There are really fun commercials planned to be filmed tonight, and it would be a really fun experience," Eckerson said. "Plus, there is free food and pop."
Nadeem Noor Mohammed, the CSU building coordinator, added that it's a good opportunity to show off the CSU.
"We would like ourselves and other students to use this opportunity to show the rest of the campus what the Union's uses are, and to demonstrate how varied the use of the CSU is by our growing and diverse group of MSU students," Mohammed said.
Students who can't make it to the filming tonight can still participate and win prizes. Students can create their own 30-second commercial about the CSU and submit it to be played on www.boredboard.com. The commercials made by students will be voted on by other MSU students.
"The first, second and third place winners will receive a cash prize," Eckerson said. "The commercials will also be played before each Stomper Cinema."
For more information and contest rules, go to www.boredboard.org/commercial contest.html. Rules can also be picked up in CSU 173. The commercials made by students for submission are due March 19 in CSU 173.
"With all the hype of YouTube and video production, I think that this will be a really fun way to get people involved," Eckerson said. "I know that I have posted videos on YouTube, and we would like to create that same creative production within the MSU students."
