Coffee Hag to host performance
Musician John Charles to come to Mankato Saturday
Issue date: 2/7/08
Section: Music
Mankato residents will have the opportunity to hear musician John Charles perform Saturday at the Coffee Hag, a beatnik style coffee, sandwich and baked goods shop at 329 Riverfront Drive.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. There is no cost for admission.
Charles, an acoustic guitar and ukulele player from Fond du Lac, Wisc., will perform with his stand-up bassist, Dan Robinson. The two will play a mixture of American pop, rock, folk and blues music with a little bit of New Age influence for good measure.
Charles describes his unique musical style as "acoustic alternative joy slices." He plays mostly humorous, original songs, but adds a few cover songs and more pensive tunes to his performances as well.
During the performance, copies of Charles's recent multi-instrumental album "Kookification" will be on sale for $10. His other albums include "Life's A Gas ...So Breathe Deep!" (2001) and "My Old Fond Du" (2004).
