Opera Iowa Troupe to visit MSU
Issue date: 2/7/08
Section: Theater and Dance
The Opera Iowa Troupe will bring hilarious disguises, great comedy and sparkling music Feb. 11 to Minnesota State when it performs Gaetano Donizetti's "Don Pasquale."
The performance combines a tale of love with elements of Italian commedia dellarte, the theatrical tradition of putting characters in amusing situations to please audiences.
Recipients of the 2002 Iowa Arts Council's Build Communities "Arts in Education" Award, the troupe has entertained nearly 600,000 people over the past 21 years.
Performing "Pasquale" for the first time together in 10 years, the Troupe has decided to take it on the road in a series of school and community performances. In addition to its MSU performance, the troupe will host public, comprehensive workshops Feb. 11 at 1 and 3 p.m. in Halling Recital Hall.
Pasquale will be the first in the Department Nadine B. Andreas Artists in Residence Series. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mnsu.edu/music/. Student tickets are $9.
