It is starting to finally cool down after a month of scorching weather, just in time for football season. There will be plenty of optimism tonight as college football teams across the country kick off their seasons.
The time has finally come for the Minnesota State women’s soccer team to kick-start its season as they travel to Michigan for a pair of nonconference showdowns this weekend.
Soccer With just a little more than a week left to prepare for their season opener, the Minnesota State women’s soccer players are all trying to establish roles on the team. Featuring many players whose roles will grow immensely compared to last season, the squad has some talented young blood that figures to blend in nicely with the senior leadership on the team.
With a history of poor decisions and the odds against them, the Timberwolves look to turn fortunes
The NBA draft is upon us, and for the second straight year under new general manager David Kahn, the Timberwolves are expected to be big players on draft night. The draft lottery woes continued for the Wolves last month when the team ended up with the fourth overall pick in the draft even though they had the second best odds to get the first pick.
It is every young baseball player’s dream to have an opportunity to one day play in the major leagues. Minnesota State junior pitcher Bret Mitchell has that opportunity after hearing his name called by the New York Mets during the MLB draft in early June.
Led by a strong senior class, the women’s track and field team made a historical leap
The Minnesota State track and field teams finished up their seasons last week at the NCAA DII national meet. Each team had athletes competing for the last time in their careers at MSU and felt the urge to leave on a high note. The women may have surprised themselves with how well they performed at the national meet.
The Minnesota State women’s tennis team answered many questions that were asked at the beginning of the 2010 season. The team was very competitive all year and managed a .500 record, going 12-12 on the year and finishing sixth in the final ITA Central Region rankings.
Minnesota State junior defensive back Jesse Hamilton has been named to the Consensus Draft Services Preseason Division II All-American Second-Team. The Racine, Wisc., native tied the single season record for interceptions last season with seven and was named to the All-Region and the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Team.
Although the MSU baseball team’s regular season has concluded, it won’t stop the Mavericks from playing competitive baseball this summer. Many players are planning on playing in leagues across the United States. Representing the Northwoods League and the Mankato Moondogs will be right-handed pitcher Blake Schwartz, left-handed pitcher Ryan Demmin and outfielder Danny Miller.
Most NCAA baseball teams have the College Baseball World Series in the back of their minds every spring. Only a few teams can make the dream a reality. The Minnesota State baseball team was one of eight teams to earn a spot in the Div. II tournament in Cary, N.
Offensive lineman Adrian Battles hopes to be wearing familiar colors this fall
Adrian Battles will be on a similar field this summer in similar colors. But for the 6-foot-three-inch, 300 pound offensive lineman, this summer will bring a new set of challenges. The former Minnesota State star signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings, a team he grew accustomed to seeing when they held training camp at Blakeslee stadium on the Minnesota State campus.

Whether they were in Marshall or Mankato, MSU won in convincing fashion
Make it seven in a row for the Minnesota State baseball team. The Mavericks capped off a four-game series sweep of Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. on Saturday with a pair of lopsided victories, 15-3 and 8-1. This came on the heels of some similar results two days earlier in Mankato, when the Mavericks mashed the Mustangs in a pair of games, 11-1 and 8-2.

Since the beginning, Minnesota State head softball coach Lori Meyer’s keys to the season have been confidence and consistency. After MSU’s doubleheaders this past week against Winona State and Southwest Minnesota, coach Meyer has a lot to be excited about, as well as a lot to work on.

On Monday the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced that Minnesota State’s Ben Kincaid has been named Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore pitched his first career complete game in an 8-1 win over Southwest Minnesota State. He allowed five hits and struck out six batters.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are going nowhere. The second worst team in the NBA right now just emerged from the longest losing streak in franchise history at 16 games and the future does not look bright.
