Student Activities hosts Dam Bike Ride event

Feel like you are spinning you wheels this summer with a summer job or internship? Well take a break from all the familiar stress and spin your bike wheels at the Dam Bike Ride June 22 instead.

Organized by the Student Activities team, the Dam Bike Ride event will start at Minnesota State University, Mankato in front of the CSU at 3 p.m. The riders will then make their way to the Rapidan Dam, making their way back to MNSU with a sweet stop for a piece of pie at The Dam Store. This summer-fun event is free and open to the public.

In a press release on mnsu.edu, Assistant Director of Student Activities and the event coordinator Ashley Strom commented on the event:

“The Dam Bike Ride is a program that started before I joined the Student Activities team in 2011, and has really become a staple of our summer programming,” she said. “The best part of the event is that it brings members of the campus community and the greater Mankato community together, which people must enjoy, as more and more people show up each year.”

Everyone is encouraged to join this 24-mile journey that has been going on for over seven years now. Entire families are encouraged to come and enjoy a nice afternoon biking around Mankato. Whether you are the fastest biker in full speed gear or riding your bike from 1996 that was in the rafters until the day before, the event will be a fun community affair. And don’t worry–there is no time limit on the event!

If your bike needs some tuning up before the event, be sure to visit the Nicolett Bike Shop located on 607 N Riverfront Dr, Mankato. They will be able to fix up any loose chains or slippery brakes, or anything in between. You may even find a new set of wheels for the event while there!

According to the press release on the even found on mnsu.edu, the Dam Bike Ride is a part of a summer programming series sponsored by the Centennial Student Union and Student Activities.
