Get the net out, get the ball in the air, and get the block party going! It’s volleyball time. This weekend, the volleyball team heads into the home stretch of their season with six games left to go. The first against Minnesota Duluth and the second St. Cloud State. Friday’s game will be at 6 PM and Saturday’s will start at 2 PM.

The Mavericks are coming off a tough game last weekend against the Bemidji State Beavers. The game was a close battle but they fell 3-2 after 5 sets. The volleyball team is now 14-8 and hope to improve their 3-3 record at home.

The first is a matchup against the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. This will be a challenge as the Bulldogs are ranked #3 in the NSIC volleyball rankings. Understandably so as they are 12-2 in the conference and 18-6 overall.

Last year, the Mavericks lost 3-0 when they faced UMD. This time through, they look for redemption.

Looking at the stats this year, Morgan Olson is certainly going to be an impact player. The junior leads the team in kills with 358, kills per set (4.42) and a .397 percentage.

Along with her is sophomore Alivia Garbe who leads the team in assists and is second in kills. Rounding out the kills column is Anissa Janzig with 127.

All three players have started every game for the Mavs and make up a strong core.

As for their second game, St. Cloud State is right below the Mavericks in the rankings. They have the same in-conference record at 8-6, but overall the Huskies are 12-8. The girls are seeking vengeance as they also lost to the Huskies last year.

One way or another, our volleyball looks to bounce back this weekend and redeem themselves.
