The Minnesota State Mavericks men’s basketball team traveled to Carbondale, Illinois to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis for an exhibition contest Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Even though both teams put up a long and hard fight, the Mavericks fell short of the Salukis and lost 56-41.

Maverick senior Cameron Kirksey ended the game with a rebound short of a double-double as he brought in 11 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore Tre Baumgardner finished with 10 points and five rebounds and sophomore Kelby Kramer produced an all-around game, putting up six points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

MSU was able to hold onto a lead of 18-17 at halftime, but the Salukis were able to come into the second half even stronger, resulting in a win for them 56-41.

Saluki freshman Marcus Domask and senior Eric McGill led Southern Illinois, each scoring 17 points, while Domask also brought in 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Minnesota State will open its regular season Friday, Nov. 8, when they face off against Washburn at the NSIC/MIAA Crossover in Kansas City, Missouri.
