The Minnesota State Mavericks men and women’s basketball teams started their regular season earlier this month.

Both the teams have kept their overall record close to even. Each team will have to focus on their offensive and defensive plays this weekend. The men play against Crown College and the women take on Bethany Lutheran Vikings, with both games being held at home in the Taylor Center.

The Mavericks and Crown College have a very short history of just one game, dating back to Dec. 19, 2008. This game was one sided, with the Mavericks winning 111-43. Minnesota State and Crown College come into play with very similar records, despite Crown College playing more games. As of Wednesday afternoon, Crown College has lost to North Dakota State, Bethel University and Saint Mary’s University. With the brief history and large score gap between Minnesota State and Crown College, the Mavericks should have no problem defeating Crown College.

On Monday night, the Maverick women’s basketball team will be hosting the Vikings. The Mavericks are sitting at 1-1, with their only loss coming against the Michigan Tech Huskies. On the other hand, the Vikings have a 4-0 record, with three of the games ending within 20 points.

In the past, the two teams have faced off only once. On Nov. 26, 2018, the Mavericks outplayed the Vikings and won 98-46. With hard work and determination, the Mavericks should continue their season with another win.
