Surge Forth!

A letter from the Editor

David Bassey
Editor in Chief

The past few months have been so exhilarating! MNSU turned 150, Maverick football is 9-0, soccer is in the playoffs, my reporter, Emmauella is out of hospital and we have not even got snow yet!

From Charlottesville to Pittsburgh to Kentucky, there has been an increase in deaths fueled by hatred, with Gun Violence archive talliyng over 300 shootings across the country. The lives of well-meaning citizens have been totally transformed as people do not know where to go to be safe even in a house of prayer.

“Anti-Semitism is a plague to humanity,” said Sarah Sanders, Press Secretary to the White House, but I say love is a greater motivator.

As America grieves for the lost lives of brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers across our nation, I call on church leaders all over to fight! Not a physical one, but spiritual warfare.

Given that a majority of churches were encouraged to vote our current president into office, I call on churches to act for our nation. With this in mind, I call for all churches to take a 3-day prayer and fasting for our nation.

If you really want to make this nation great again, it is not just having thinktanks and/or waiting for politicians to act. Let us back up our acts of kindness which President Trump touts about to the world with prayer for the marginalized, lost, those hurting, our leaders.

I am sure that God will answer because He says, if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, I will hear from heaven and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 paraphrased)

On preparing this letter, I received this message from the Lord:

I am moving you from the place of ordinary to the extraordinary.
Multiple levels of increase. The dynamics has changed hands.
You have asked me to move on this campus.
Now you will feel my energy, my might and power like you have never seen before.
Tell them that, there won’t be a year like this ever again. The new dawn era is still speaking and it will show in all you do.
