The Minnesota State Mavericks volleyball team continues to amaze fans after adding two more wins to their record.

On Friday, the team traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota, to take on the University of Mary Marauders.

The first set started off evenly with each team keeping a close score, until the Mavericks were able to get ahead by three points. Even though the Marauders had a few small runs to take advantage of the game, they just fell short.

Senior Morgan Olson helped the team offensively with seven kills in the first set and MSU was able to take the win, 25-21.

Fans and players could tell right away that set two was going to be another Maverick win. Freshman Jessica Nelson pushed the team to a 13-6 lead early in the game with four kills and eventually winning 25-18.

The third set was another quick win for the Mavericks, giving no hope of a win to the Marauders. The Mavericks took an early seven-point lead, which evolved into a lead of 11 and ended the game 25-15.

Olson led the team with 15 kills and at Nelson added 10 of her own. Sophomore Dana Schindler brought in a match-leading 30 assists and 12 digs.

On Saturday, the Mavericks traveled to Minot, North Dakota to face the Minot State Beavers. Just like the day before, the Mavericks started the first set with a 10-5 lead, due to the strength of the front line and the attack of Olson and Nelson.

MSU was able to carry their lead for the rest of the set and win 25-21.

The second set continued with a 5-2 Maverick push, but the Beavers wanted to have their shining moment and they fought hard. The Mavericks front line was too strong for the Beavers to break, resulting in another win (25-21).

Set three was no different than the rest of the game, where the Mavericks shut down the Beavers 25-16.

Olson ended the match with 19 kills, senior Anissa Janzig had 11 and Nelson finished with 10.

Schindler completed the game with a match high of 45 assists and Minnesota State recorded seven blocks, whereas Minot State had only one.

The Minnesota State volleyball team will be playing at the Taylor Center in Mankato this weekend against Northern State on Friday, followed by a match against the Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday.
