The Reporter wins 15 awards at state level

On Thursday, 10 students from the Reporter attended the annual Minnesota Newspaper Association banquet to accept awards on behalf of the Better Newspaper Contest. 

The event celebrates newspapers on the collegiate and local level throughout the state of Minnesota with several categories for stories, photographs and designs.

The Reporter took home 15 awards, three of those being in first place. The 2022-23 editorial staff won first and second place for their editorials. The Reporter as a whole won second in General Excellence and third for Best Website. 

Former photo editor Dylan Engel took home first place in the Best News Photo and Feature Photo categories. He also won second place for Best Sports Photo. Photographer Lilly Anderson also won in the Feature Photo category, coming in second.

Staff writers Amalia Sharaf and Lauren Viska both came in third with their stories, Sharaf in Investigative Reporting and Viska in Arts and Entertainment. 

Former Editor-in-chief Julia Lin came in second for Local Breaking News Coverage while Emma Johnson came in second for Best Social Issues Story.

Wrapping it up, former sports writers Kole Buelow and Ali Reed won in the Sports Feature Story category, Buelow in second place with Reed in third. Former sports writer Karson Buelow won third place in the Best Sports Story category.
