Entertainment Preview: Taking a look at what December has to offer

Since we will be taking a little time off for the winter break, we here in the A&E wing of The Reporter wanted to highlight some of the big things December has to offer in the ways of entertainment. This list obviously isn’t everything that releases, but more a collection of things we found worth mentioning. With that being said, let’s dive into it.

Movies

In film, this month is chock full of big releases and Oscar contenders. As early as this weekend, for example, you can catch two critical starlets in the form of Vox Lux and Mary Queen of Scots. Natalie Portman gives yet another amazing performance in the former as a pop star. Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie battle it out in the latter as opposing Queens. On the Dec. 14 you can catch the new animated Spidey flick, “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse”. Critical praise is through the roof with this one, as it has a 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes as of typing. After that, if you’re still feeling super, you can check out the new DC film “Aquaman”. Jason Momoa stars as the titular hero, as he tries to reunite Atlantis and take his rightful place as King. On Christmas Day, many families across the nation go to the movies. I don’t really know why, maybe it’s a desperate bid to stop small talking with each other. Whatever the reason, they and you can go catch new political comedy “Vice”, starring Christian Bale.

Music

Music is very tumultuous, as release dates get moved up and down the calendar all the time. With that being said, as of right now these albums seem to be the biggest drops of the month. Late rapper XXXtentacion’s party will be releasing his album, “Skins”, posthumously, and with a feature from Kanye West coupled with his resounding popularity, it looks to be something to at the very least check out. The next week, Zayn, former One Direction star, is releasing his second studio album, “Icarus Falls”. After his first album garnered the top spot on the Billboard Top 200, this new album looks to be a big one.

Video Games

Finally, we land on my favorite form of media, video games. This month is typically quiet, but this year it holds one big release. “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate”, the newest Smash Bros. game looks to keep players invested for years to come by being the biggest and most detailed yet. Possessing a roster of every game’s previous fighter along with a few new ones, this game looks to keep things varied and fun.
